  13. This installation guide describes:
  14.  
  15. o  How to use EZStart to copy the Microsoft Windows NT version 3.1 
  16.    NDIS spec 3.0 driver from the SuperDisk to your PC.
  17.  
  18. o  How to install the driver.
  19.  
  20. Note: This driver supports all 8216 (Ultra) and 80xx (PLUS) 
  21.       Series ISA and Micro Channel Ethernet adapters.

  24. COPYING THE DRIVER FILE
  25.  
  26. From the EZStart Driver Installation screen, select 'Copy Files'
  27. to copy all the files used by this driver from the SuperDisk to 
  28. the Destination Directory recommended by EZStart, or to a different
  29. directory that you specify.
  30.  
  31. The EZStart default Destination Directory is A:\. Please make
  32. a backup copy of your SuperDisk before EZStart copies files to the
  33. SuperDisk to create an installation diskette.
  34.  
  35. Note:  If you change the Destination Directory, make sure that the
  36.        DISK.ID file is in the root directory of the disk that you 
  37.        are using, and that the OEMSETUP.INF and SMC8000.LAN files
  38.        reside in the root directory or a subdirectory on the disk
  39.        you are using.

  42. INSTALLING THE DRIVER
  43.  
  44. 1. Use EZStart to test and configure your Ethernet adapter. Make
  45.    sure you write down your Ethernet adapter IRQ, I/O Base, and
  46.    RAM Base settings.
  47.  
  48. 2. Boot your computer from Windows NT.
  49.  
  50. 3. From the Program Manager's "Main" window, double-click on the 
  51.    "Control Panel" icon.
  52.  
  53. 4. Double-click on "Network". The Network Settings dialog box 
  54.    appears.
  55.  
  56. 5. Select "Add Adapter".
  57.  
  58. 6. Select "<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer".
  59.  
  60. 7. Select "Continue".
  61.  
  62. 8. When prompted, insert the SuperDisk.
  63.  
  64. 9. Type the Destination Directory where EZStart copied the
  65.    driver files (for example, A:\WIN_NT). If you are not
  66.    sure where the Destination Directory resides, look for
  67.    the SMC8000N.SYS file. This file was one of the files
  68.    copied by EZStart to the Destination Directory. When you
  69.    find the directory where this file resides, you will have
  70.    found the Destination Directory.

  72. 10. Select "OK".
  73.  
  74. 11. When the next dialog box appears, select the SMC Ethernet 
  75.     adapter followed by "OK".  
  76.  
  77. 12. Choose the IRQ level, memory base address, and I/O port
  78.     address. Refer to the information you wrote down in step 1.

  80. 13. When the next two dialog boxes appear, select "OK" for 
  81.     each one.

  83. 14. Shutdown and reboot your computer.

  85. In the unlikely event you encounter any device driver errors 
  86. after Windows NT boots, check the event log in the 
  87. Administrative Tools icon to see whether the error is related
  88. to your network adapter.
